WHAT IS CHINA?
Wheel Of Fortune March 17 2020
According to The Hindu’s explanation of China’s “one country, two systems” policy, it was a policy formulated by Deng Xiaoping and originally meant to unify China and Taiwan, but that did not work out. China added the provision to its Constitution in December 1982 and the policy was applied to Hong Kong and Macau when those territories were returned to Chinese Control: “Hong Kong returned to Chinese control on July 1, 1997, and Macau’s sovereignty was transferred on December 20, 1999. Both regions became Special Administrative Regions of China. The regions would have their own currencies, economic and legal systems, but defence and diplomacy would be decided by Beijing. Their mini-Constitutions would remain valid for 50 years — till 2047 for Hong Kong and 2049 for Macau. It is unclear what will happen after this term.”
Kris got it right and added this message (And who is going to hire this PhD?). He bet $7,001 and brought him up to $16,601. “You may not need anybody to hire you,” Alex said.
Nicole thought it was the Czech Republic. She lost her $6,801 bet and finished with $2,999.
Sid went with Germany. That cost him $3,400 and dropped him down to $13,200. That made Kris Sunderic the new Jeopardy! champ. No one was more surprised than he was!

Correct response: What is (the People’s Republic of) China?
More information about Final Jeopardy:
The “one country, two systems” principle refers to the People’s Republic of China’s governance of Hong Kong and Macau and was formulated by Deng Xiaoping for the country’s 1982 constitution; the idea is to reiterate by the PRC that there be only one China, but still allow Hong Kong and Macau to retain their capitalist economic systems (with the rest of Mainland China using the Marxist-Leninist system adapted to Chinese socio-economic needs). It came to fruition with Hong Kong becoming part of China in 1997 and Macau in 1999.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- The trivia gods smiled upon Kris by the end; Kris was definitely the more aggressive Daily Double player, and it just goes to show that a sufficiently strong player can overcome a True Daily Double working against them—even in Double Jeopardy—and still win the game.
- To that end, a sufficiently aggressive wager on Daily Double #3 would have ended up giving Sid the runaway that would have been very useful for him today.
